Walking 60 miles in three days with 2500 people committed to ending breast cancer was an amazing experience to say the least, but the Cheering Stations were what really blew me away.
I've never been a competitve athlete, never run through a line of people waiting to give me hi-fives, never had a group of people cheer me on with music, offerings of cheese sticks, candy or Gatorade. Until the Komen 3-Day, I never knew what it felt like to be a rock star, a super-star athlete, or to be loved (even if just for a passing moment) by groups of strangers on the street. IT WAS AWESOME!
As one of my team members noted, "Where else can you go where people cheer for you for walking?"
It was overwhelming--the faces of young children serious about the job of handing you drink as you walk by-- the parents, spouses, siblings, and grandparents--the balloons and flags--the dogs dressed in pink jersies--really, it doesn't get any better than this. I felt like I was doing something that mattered.
I feel that way as an entrepreneur, too. That what I'm creating and building will ultimately help people. Sometimes though, it's tough to keep the momentum going. There are a lot of challenges to creating a successful business and a whole lot to learn. It's definitely a journey that could sure use some cheering stations along the way. If you know any entrepreneurs, cheer 'em on. They need it.
